Shaped for the shift from tarmac to gravel, the Asics Gel-Pulse 17 TR sets an engineered mesh upper over a FlyteFoam Blast midsole with a 38 mm heel stack and an 8 mm drop. Deeper lugs than the road version bite into loose ground, while an internal heel counter holds the rearfoot steady. Cushioning is moderate and protective underfoot rather than springy.
