FREEMAN WILLIAM | ASICS LOOK

Published: 08/05/2026 | By: Alex Courbat

Freeman's got two very distinct looks going on here, and ASICS have given him plenty to work with. Let's walk through both.

The everyday kit starts from the ground up with the GEL-NIMBUS 28 , and straight away you can see why this is one of ASICS's most well-loved shoes. They've managed to make it lighter than before while somehow making it feel even more cushioned – which sounds like it shouldn't be possible, but here we are. The underfoot feel is genuinely soft, the sort that takes the edge off longer distances and makes the whole thing feel a bit less like hard work. The upper wraps your foot in a knitted material that's gentle and snug without feeling restrictive. Comfortable from the first step, basically.

Up top, Freeman's in the Ibuki Short Sleeve – and you'll see this one again in the fast look, because when something works, it works. It's a lightweight, breathable top that keeps things simple: short sleeves, no fuss, nothing getting in the way of your arms or your stride. It's the kind of top you reach for without thinking too much about it.

Two pictures of a man wearing running clothing. One whilst running.

Now, the fast look. The shoes change entirely, and so does the mood. The Sonicblast is a proper race-day shoe – there's a plate built into the midsole for energy return, two different types of foam working together for a ride that's both cushioned and responsive, and an ASICS-specific outsole that grips the road when you're really moving. It's a shoe that rewards you for picking up the pace, and it looks the part too.

The shorts for this look are the Metarun 5-Inch – cut short, kept minimal, and designed for runners who are serious about covering distance without anything getting in the way. Lightweight, well-structured, and tailored to let your legs move exactly how they need to.

And then there's the Road Packable Jacket , which is the real wildcard of the kit and, honestly, a brilliant bit of kit for anyone running in this country. It's built to handle wind and light rain, packs down into its own side pocket mid-run if you warm up enough to shed it, and has ventilation zones under the arms and at the back of the neck so you're not cooking underneath it. The hood has a drawcord to keep it from moving around when you're running hard, which is a small detail that makes a big difference. Worth mentioning too: a good chunk of the materials are recycled, so there's a bit of environmental conscience quietly stitched in alongside everything else.

Same top, same approach, two very different feelings underfoot. ASICS have done a nice job of giving Freeman a kit that covers the full range – from comfortable and considered to fast and focused.
