ARSENAL 26/27 AWAY KIT: ADIDAS REIMAGINES THE BRUISED BANANA FOR A NEW GENERATION

Published: 31/07/2026 | By: Alex Courbat

Mess with a genuine terrace icon and you'll hear about it from every corner of the Emirates. So when whispers started doing the rounds that the 2026/27 away shirt was taking cues from the Bruised Banana, the internet did what the internet does best: braced itself, half expecting a reheated reissue, half hoping for something with actual nerve.

Arsenal away kit 2026 / 2027 reveal

What's landed is neither. It's smarter than that. Rather than a straight reprint of one of the most instantly recognisable shirts in football history, adidas has done the harder, more interesting thing: pulled out the attitude of the original and left the specifics behind.

The new away kit swaps the Bruised Banana's yellow base for a deep navy canvas, then lets that same jagged, energetic geometric print snake across it in yellow, doing enough to spark the recognition without ever tipping into pastiche. It's a wink rather than a photocopy, and in an era when half of football's kit output is throwback-by-numbers, that restraint is the whole story.

The details do the rest of the talking. Red and yellow trims sit neatly at the collar and cuffs, the adidas Trefoil takes its place on the chest as a reminder of exactly whose archive is being raided, and the crest is heat applied directly to the fabric, keeping things sleek with none of the bulk you'd get from a stitched badge. The 3 Stripes are laid on and finished in herringbone tape, the sort of match worn detailing that used to be reserved for the players and is now very much fair game for anyone picking up the authentic version.

Underneath the styling there's proper substance too, which is exactly what you'd expect from the reigning Premier League champions. CLIMACOOL+ technology runs through the fabric, managing heat and moisture through targeted airflow and sweat wicking, so the shirt performs as hard as it looks. The yarn has a natural stretch to it as well, built to move with actual football rather than just a Saturday afternoon on the sofa.

What makes this one land, though, isn't the spec sheet. It's the read on the room. Arsenal and adidas have clocked that supporters don't want a costume of the past, they want something that feels like it belongs to them, right now, while still nodding at where it all came from. That's a genuinely difficult balance to strike season after season, and yet this partnership keeps finding it. Between the Bruised Banana energy here and the run of kits that's come before it, Arsenal are quietly building one of the most consistent kit legacies in the game and doing it without ever feeling like they're coasting on nostalgia.

The 26/27 away kit isn't trying to be the shirt your dad wore. It's trying to be the shirt you'll be talking about in twenty years' time, worn by a side defending a title rather than chasing one. Early signs suggest it's got every chance.
