Two people wearing the 2026/27 Liverpool football kit

GREATNESS IS TIMELESS

Published: 18/05/2026 | By: Alex Courbat

The return of an icon always means something at Liverpool Football Club, and the new adidas Liverpool FC 2x026/27 Home Jersey captures that feeling perfectly. Rooted in history but built for the modern game, this latest release is more than just a new strip. It’s a celebration of an era, an identity, and a reminder that some things in football never lose their power.

For this one, adidas and Liverpool FC have looked back to one of the club’s most memorable home shirts – the legendary 1989-91 design – and revived it into a new generation. For supporters who remember Kenny Dalglish’s title-winning side, the inspiration is instantly recognisable. The dynamic geometric pattern that became synonymous with one of Liverpool’s great teams has been reimagined through a sharper, contemporary lens, creating a shirt that feels both nostalgic and completely fresh.

The rich deep red base remains unmistakably Liverpool, while the all-over graphic gives the jersey real energy and personality. White detailing across the adidas logo, club crest and trims keeps the look clean and classic, striking that perfect balance between heritage and modernity. It feels like a shirt designed to honour the past without being trapped by it.

But while the visual identity nods to Liverpool’s history, the technology behind the shirt is firmly focused on the future. adidas have treated the 2026/27 Home Jersey as a performance-first product, engineered specifically for the speed, intensity and physical demands of the modern game.

At the centre of that innovation is adidas’ latest CLIMACOOL+ technology – developed to regulate body temperature more efficiently during high-intensity moments. The advanced material system works to wick sweat away from the skin faster, helping players stay cooler, lighter and more comfortable deep into matches. In elite football, where marginal gains can define outcomes, that level of temperature and moisture management becomes a genuine performance advantage rather than simply a comfort feature.

The construction of the jersey has also been meticulously refined through the use of lightweight, body-mapped 3D engineered fabrics. Rather than using a uniform material throughout, adidas have designed specific zones across the shirt to respond differently depending on movement and physical output. Areas requiring increased ventilation feature strategically placed mesh panelling to maximise airflow, while high-mobility sections are built to enhance stretch and freedom of movement without compromising fit.

Even the iconic adidas detailing has been reworked with performance in mind. The perforated 3-stripe taping improves breathability across key heat zones, contributing to overall air permeability across the entire jersey. The result is a shirt that feels lighter, faster and more responsive at the highest level of play – engineered not just to look elite, but to perform under elite conditions.

What makes this approach especially compelling is that none of the innovation comes at the expense of identity. adidas have managed to integrate cutting-edge sportswear technology into a shirt that still feels emotionally connected to one of Liverpool’s most iconic eras. It’s a balance modern football kits often struggle to achieve – preserving heritage while genuinely pushing technical performance forward.

That connection between generations runs throughout the launch campaign itself. Using AI technology, club legends Ian Rush, John Barnes, Alan Hansen and Bruce Grobbelaar have been recreated as they appeared in 1989, wearing the original shirt that inspired this season’s design. Alongside current stars Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and Mia Enderby, the campaign reinforces the idea that greatness at Liverpool is never confined to one moment in time.

Finished with matching deep red shorts and socks accented by white detailing, the full kit delivers a unified look that feels unmistakably Liverpool from every angle.

Some shirts come and go. Others become part of football history. This one already feels destined to sit firmly in the latter category
