GET TO KNOW THE NEW BALANCE 1080v15

Published: 23/04/2026 | By: Alex Courbat

If you’ve ever owned a pair of New Balance 1080s, you know the kind of dependable shoe we’re talking about – comfortable, reliable, and happy to pile up mile after mile without making a fuss. I mean, let’s be honest – this is the 15th version of shoe, so they must be doing something right. That being said, the New Balance 1080v15 might be the latest evolution in the line, but it’s not just another incremental update: this version feels lighter, springier, and genuinely more engaging underfoot than its immediate predecessor.

Slip them on and the first thing you’ll notice is the ride. New Balance has replaced the older Fresh Foam X midsole with a brand‑new Infinion foam, a gas‑infused TPE‑EVA blend that’s engineered to be lighter, softer, and more energetic than what came before. This foam doesn’t just cushion your steps, it responds, giving a lively sensation on toe‑off that makes steady miles feel smoother and more efficient without ever feeling harsh or overly peppy. That transition from heel to toe feels more fluid, and there’s a subtle spring to each stride that wasn’t as pronounced with the v14’s older foam.

Underfoot, the 1080v15 has a generous (but still balanced) stack – around 39‑40 mm at the heel and about 33‑34 mm at the forefoot with a 6 mm drop – giving you plenty of plush cushioning while keeping your foot connected to the ground in a way that doesn’t feel clumsy or overwhelmed.

The upper has had one of its most significant refreshes in years. Where past 1080s leaned on more classic mesh constructions, the v15 brings a contoured, perforated mesh that feels modern, breathable, and surprisingly secure. There’s still enough padding around the heel and tongue to feel snug without pressure, but the overall volume has shifted a bit: many find the forefoot and midfoot slightly slimmer than older versions, which can be great if you prefer a more performance‑lean feel, though runners with very wide feet might want to try a wider option.

On the move, this shoe feels smooth, confident, and versatile. Easy runs feel plush and inviting, yet there’s enough spring in the heel‑to‑toe roll that even moderate efforts have a touch of liveliness without turning the trainer into something too race‑oriented. It’s still very much a neutral daily trainer – not a stability shoe – but the platform feels balanced and confidence‑inspiring for most paces.

Out on the road, the outsole grips predictably, with rubber in the high‑wear zones giving that extra bit of bite even on damp tarmac which should reassure our British-based runners. It’s understated but effective: don’t go out on trails, but on everyday surfaces it’ll get the job done.

Price‑wise, the 1080v15 is slightly more expensive that the v14. Still, for runners who want a comfortable, durable daily shoe that feels more lively than most plush cushions without sacrificing comfort, it’s easy to justify – especially when you consider the ride quality and build.

In short, the 1080v15 keeps the soul of the series alive – dependable cushioning, versatile performance, and everyday comfort – but adds a modern twist: a protective and genuinely enjoyable ride that feels both familiar and refreshingly more energetic, thanks to its new foam and refined design.

Whether you’re logging base miles, hitting weekly recovery routes, or just looking for a smooth, reliable shoe you can rely on day after day, the 1080v15 makes a compelling case as one of the most complete daily trainers available right now.
