Nike Mercurial Vapor 17 & Superfly 11: Which Boot, Which Tier?

Published: 15/06/2026, By: Alex Courbat

So you've decided you want a new Mercurial. Good call. The challenge isn't choosing the silo anymore – it's choosing the right level. Nike's Mercurial range now stretches from Elite all the way down to Club, with genuine differences in materials, construction and technology between each tier.

Whether you're looking at the Vapor 17 or the Superfly 11, here's everything you need to know before making your choice.

MERCURIAL VAPOR 17

The Vapor remains one of the purest expressions of the Mercurial concept. Lightweight, direct and built around a close connection to the ball, it's a boot designed for players who value responsiveness and freedom of movement above all else.

While every Vapor shares the same DNA, the technology changes considerably as you move through the tiers.

Elite

The full Mercurial experience. Built around Nike's FlyLite plate, the Vapor 17 Elite delivers an incredibly lightweight and responsive ride underfoot. Up top, the Atomknit upper combines low weight with exceptional support, creating the barefoot sensation that has become synonymous with Nike's top-tier speed boots.

Underneath, anatomical bladed traction is engineered to optimise acceleration and directional changes at pace, helping players stay sharp when the game moves into overdrive. This is the model worn by many of the world's best players and represents the pinnacle of the Vapor range.

Pro

For devoted players seeking outstanding performance and exceptional value. The Vapor 17 Pro features a lightweight plate system designed to keep the boot responsive while reducing overall weight. The Atomknit construction of the Elite is replaced by a Flyknit upper, delivering a lightweight, adaptable fit while retaining the secure feel that defines the Mercurial silo. It may sit one step below the flagship model, but the performance intent remains firmly intact.

Academy

The sweet spot for many players. Featuring Nike's NikeLite plate and a NikeSkin upper with a vertical soft mesh construction, the Academy focuses on delivering enhanced touch and a connected feel on the ball. Responsive underfoot and comfortable straight out of the box, it captures much of the Mercurial identity in a more accessible package.

For ambitious players looking for performance without stretching into premium territory, this is where the range becomes particularly compelling.

Club

The entry point into the Mercurial family. A textured synthetic moulded upper provides durability and improved ball contact, while the unmistakable Mercurial silhouette remains intact. You won't find the advanced technologies featured higher in the range, but the Club still carries the visual identity and speed-focused character that have defined Mercurials for generations.

Perfect for newer players, recreational footballers or anyone looking to step into the silo for the first time.

MERCURIAL SUPERFLY 11

The Superfly takes Nike's speed philosophy and layers in some of the brand's most advanced performance technologies. Still unmistakably Mercurial, it places greater emphasis on energy return and explosive acceleration, creating a package designed to help players maximise every sprint, burst and breakaway.

Elite

The flagship. At the heart of the Superfly 11 Elite sits a forefoot Air Zoom unit, delivering responsive energy return and a spring-loaded sensation with every stride. Directly beneath the foot, a ZoomX liner provides an additional layer of responsiveness, helping translate movement into acceleration as efficiently as possible.

The FlyWeave Ultra upper delivers lightweight containment at top speed, while anatomical bladed traction is engineered for explosive acceleration when every step matters.

This is the complete Superfly experience and the closest thing to what you'll see on the feet of elite-level professionals.

Pro

Arguably one of the strongest value propositions in the entire Mercurial lineup. The Air Zoom unit remains intact, ensuring much of the Elite's responsive feel carries over into the Pro tier. A FlyWeave upper provides a secure, tailored fit, while the traction setup combines bladed studs with twisted conical elements to balance straight-line speed with confident changes of direction.

For players who want premium performance without stepping all the way into Elite pricing, the Pro makes a compelling case.

Academy

A boot designed to grow alongside the player wearing it. The Dynamic Fit collar returns at Academy level, delivering a snug and supportive feel around the ankle, while the NikeSkin upper provides enhanced touch and a close-to-ball sensation. Comfortable, secure and unmistakably Mercurial, it offers developing players a genuine performance boot experience. It’s proof that you don’t need to reach the very top of the range to access meaningful technology.

Club

The most accessible Superfly available. Featuring a dynamic knit cuff and textured synthetic upper, the Club delivers comfort, durability and Mercurial styling in an entry-level package. While the headline technologies are reserved for the tiers above, the speed-focused DNA of the silo remains present throughout.

A strong option for players taking their first steps into the game or simply looking for a reliable boot without the premium price tag.

Which Tier Should You Choose?

The answer is simpler than it might seem. Elite models are built for players who want every available performance advantage and the most advanced technologies Nike has to offer. Pro models retain much of that performance-focused intent while offering outstanding value. Academy models strike a balance between innovation and accessibility, while Club models provide an affordable route into one of football's most iconic boot families.

More importantly, every tier now feels like a genuine member of the Mercurial family rather than simply a cheaper version of the boot above it.

Whether you choose the Vapor 17 or the Superfly 11 ultimately comes down to personal preference. Both sit under the Mercurial banner. Both are built around speed. Both carry the same design philosophy through every level of the range.

The materials change. The technology changes. The price changes. The Mercurial identity doesn't. Pick the boot that feels right. Pick the tier that suits your game. The rest is down to you.
