GET TO KNOW THE NIKE VOMERO PLUS

Published: 21/07/2026 | By: Alex Courbat

Running shoes have entered their blockbuster era. The foams are getting smarter, the midsoles are getting taller and every brand is seemingly asking the same question: how much comfort can we physically fit under a foot? Nike’s answer is the Vomero Plus – a max-cushion road runner that takes one of the brand’s most trusted franchises and gives it a serious dose of modern performance technology.

The Vomero has always been the sensible one in Nike’s running family. The reliable one. The shoe you knew would show up, put the miles in and never make a big song and dance about it. The Vomero Plus changes the energy slightly. It still has that dependable personality, but now it has walked into the room wearing a better outfit and carrying some very serious credentials.

The reason is simple: ZoomX. Sitting underneath the foot is a full-length ZoomX foam midsole, bringing Nike’s lightest, softest and most responsive foam into a daily trainer built for everyday runners rather than just race-day machines. ZoomX has spent plenty of time helping Nike’s fastest athletes chase podiums, but in the Vomero Plus it has a different job. It is here to make your regular runs feel better. Less “look what this shoe can do”, more “look how good running can feel”.

And that is where the Vomero Plus gets interesting. Maximum cushioning shoes have traditionally had a reputation for being a little bit like luxury SUVs: comfortable, impressive, but not always the most exciting thing to drive. The Vomero Plus feels different. The 45mm heel stack gives it that unmistakable max-cushion silhouette, the kind of shoe that announces itself before you have even tied the laces, but the ZoomX foam keeps the ride lively.

It feels soft without feeling sleepy. Cushioned without feeling clumsy. Basically, it manages to give your legs a five-star hotel while still reminding them they aren’t on holidays.

The magic is in the balance. Nike has built a broad platform underneath the shoe to create a stable feeling ride, while the rocker geometry helps guide you smoothly from landing through toe-off. The result is a trainer that feels protective but still has personality. It is not just absorbing every step and politely moving out of the way. It gives something back.

This is where the Vomero Plus really understands modern running. Most runners are not spending their week sprinting around a track on every outing. The reality is far less glamorous and far more important: easy miles, recovery runs, long efforts and the quiet consistency that actually builds fitness. The Vomero Plus is designed for those moments.

It is the shoe you want when your training plan says “easy run” and your legs reply with a strongly worded complaint. It’s the one you reach for after a tough session when your body needs a bit of kindness. It’s built for runners who understand that sometimes the smartest move is not chasing another PB, but making sure you can turn up again tomorrow.

For marathon training, that makes the Vomero Plus a particularly appealing option. Long-distance preparation is not just about the heroic workouts. It is about stacking the ordinary days, the miles nobody sees and the runs that happen when motivation is somewhere between “maybe” and “absolutely not”. A shoe that makes those sessions more comfortable is a valuable piece of kit.

The upper follows the same philosophy. The engineered mesh construction is soft, breathable and designed to give that immediate, welcoming feeling when you put the shoe on. There is enough padding around the collar and tongue to feel premium without making the shoe feel overbuilt. It’s comfortable straight out of the box, which is exactly what you want from a daily trainer (nobody wants their running shoe behaving like a new pair of jeans that needs three washes before it becomes enjoyable!)

Underneath, a high-abrasion rubber outsole adds the durability needed for serious mileage. Because the best running shoes are not just the ones that feel amazing on run one. They are the ones that keep feeling good when the calendar has moved on, the weather has turned and you have somehow ended up doing the same route for the hundredth time.

Compared with the Vomero 18, the Plus feels like the franchise has been given a performance upgrade. The personality is familiar, but the full ZoomX setup changes the ride. It feels softer, more energetic and more premium, taking lessons from Nike’s super shoe world and translating them into something designed for everyday runners.

In an era where every shoe wants to be the fastest, the Vomero Plus makes a strong argument for something equally important: making the miles enjoyable. It’s big, bold and packed with technology, but the real appeal is much simpler. It’s a shoe that makes you want to put it on and go for a run. And sometimes, that is the most advanced feature of all.
